EXCESSIVE FORCE CASES: Police excessive force is one of the most disturbing issues in our society today. It seems almost every day another news story or video surfaces showing a questionable police shooting or obvious example of excessive force by police officers. Gilbertson Investigations specializes in excessive force casework. Professor Gilbertson analyzes excessive force cases from practical, training, civil rights, and academic perspectives. In 2018 alone, his trial testimony in state and federal courts resulted in nearly $2 million dollars in jury judgments for victims of excessive force and police brutality.
While most police officers are honorable men and women who have dedicated their lives to public service, some are not. Every law enforcement agency employs marginal officers. These officers typically hold no college degrees in criminal justice, nor have any formal education beyond a GED or high school diploma. With minimal education and training in behavior deescalation and problem solving skills, many police officers rely on physical force, or even deadly force, to gain compliance or effect an arrest. These officers are not above the law.
If you or your client has been victimized by police officers, detectives, or the criminal justice system, call Gilbertson Investigations at (360) 237-4247.
